ABOUT THIS EVENT
So, what exactly is this event?
Started in 2016, the Living Your Best Life Annual Speaker Series event is a community luncheon benefiting Trellis Supportive Care, formerly Hospice & Palliative CareCenter. This event is designed to significantly impact people’s lives, bring energy to our community and encourage us to ask ourselves, “Am I living MY best life?”
TOP NOTCH SPEAKERS – THE BEST OF THE BEST
One of the core elements of the Living Your Best Life event is to provide the community an opportunity to hear an acclaimed, proven speaker who will bring to life subjects consistent with the theme of the series, a message that will truly lead to an enhanced life experience.
Each year our celebration includes a special recognition of a community leader who demonstrates the possibilities and potential of lives in the Triad. We hope that attendees will be inspired and gain valuable insights from the pacesetters who truly make a positive difference in the world.
A TIME FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER
The Living Your Best Life Speaker Series luncheon is truly a community event. We come together, once a year to hear a message and be changed – for the better. Ask anyone who attended our events in 2016, 2017, 2018 or 2019 and they will tell you – these speakers really make you think and reflect. It’s exciting to be part of a room that is motivated to do more — you can feel the excitement.
Registration for our 2020 event is now live. Click here to go to our Eventbrite page for more information.
FIVE YEARS ... FIVE INCREDIBLE SPEAKERS WHO ARE CHANGING LIVES FOR THE BETTER
Mary Matalin, James Carville and Ann Compton
Our 2019 event featured three nationally known political icons and strategists: Ann Compton, Mary Matalin, and James Carville. Ann Compton shared her insights and moderated a discussion about constructive engagement between the powerhouse husband and wife duo – best known for their highly passionate expression of opposing political views.
HONOREE: Jeff Smith, creator and publisher of Smitty’s Notes, was our 2019 honoree. From his early involvement with the Coalition of Young Leaders, his participation with the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership, and a myriad of other avenues, Jeff has been one of Winston-Salem’s greatest promoters and advocates.
Our 2018 event featured author, entrepreneur and child actor Isaac Lidsky as our keynote speaker. Lidsky’s story of going blind as a teenager and learning to cope — and then ultimately find incredible success — as a non-sighted entrepreneur motivated our guests and received rave reviews.
HONOREES: Lisa and Bob Gfeller, founders of the Matthew Gfeller Foundation. Lisa and Bob lost their son, Matthew, following a traumatic brain injury he sustained during a high school football game, and were inspired to create a research foundation to support sport related traumatic brain injury research, prevention, care, and advocacy.
Best-selling author Daniel H. Pink was our key-note speaker for our 2017 event and he spoke to a sold out crowd of over 1,000 people at Benton Convention Center. Dan is the author of six provocative books — including his newest, When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing. His other books include the long-running New York Times bestseller A Whole New Mind and the #1 New York Times bestsellers Drive and To Sell is Human.
HONOREES: Keith and Emily Davis from Fleet Feet Sports, Winston-Salem
Best-selling author Shawn Achor was our first key-note speaker for the inaugural 2016 Living Your Best Life Speaker Series Event. Shawn is one of the world’s leading experts on the connection between happiness and success. His research on mindset made the cover of Harvard Business Review, his TED talk is one of the most popular of all time with over 13 million views, and his lecture airing on PBS has been seen by millions. Shawn spoke to a sell-out crowd at the Benton Convention Center focusing on research from his book, The Happiness Advantage.
